Vinya de Dalt

A vineyard the old way: several grape varieties mixed in the same rows. Xarel·lo, Selma, Malvasia, Parellada and Moneu, planted in 1973 and 1992 in Pla de Manlleu, Alt Camp.

Old bush vines in spring

A field blend

Farmers used to plant different varieties together: if one struggled in a given year, another saved the harvest. Vinya de Dalt is still like that, so every bottle is a portrait of the whole vineyard.

The soil is clay. Clay holds water while limestone lets it drain: two ways of feeding the vines, two different wines. Along the edges, Arbequina olive trees go into Branca oil.

How I farm it

Biodynamically, with no synthetic products at all. I protect the vines with horsetail and nettle, trichoderma that I grow myself, and preparations 500 and 501. For two years now I have used almost no copper or sulphur.

I prune in winter, remove extra shoots by hand in spring and harvest by hand, in small crates, with friends. Every treatment goes into the field notebook: what, how much and why.
